I am new to this forum and I'm looking for some help with a problem with my Stihl FS45 gas trimmer.
The trimmer was warmed up and running, when all of a sudden it stalled. I attempted to restart it several times but couldn't get it to start. I could hear what sounded like a clicking noise when I was attempting to restart the trimmer. After four or five pulls, the pull cord would not pull out from the motor.
Previosly this summer, I replaced the fuel line and carb on this trimmer. After replacing those two parts the trimmer had been running flawlessly untill this problem developed a few days ago.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on. I would be grateful for anyone's help.
Take the plug out and look into the opening to see if anything is on top of the piston. If that looks clear remove the starter and try to move the flywheel . Then come back with what you find. It sounds alot like the connecting rod is broken or something is stuck in the piston. If you can move the flywheel fine by hand then look to the recoil starter.
Hi Possum, thanks for your quick respone. Sorry for me delay in responding but I was out of town for five days.
As for your advice, here's what I found. I couldn't see anything on top of piston. After removing the back cover which contains the recoil mechanism, I could turn the flywheel and the piston would travel up and down. I also tried the recoil while it was removed from the trimmer and it seemed to work perfectly. However after reinstalling the recoil mechanism onto the trimmer, the pull cord would not pull out.
