Starting blades

When I try to start my Sears lawn tractor blades, the motor dies. How does the mechanism to engage the blades work?

Temporarily disconnect the magneto grounding kill wire on the engine. If the engine now runs when the PTO ( blades ) are engaged your tractor probably has a safety shut down switch that is faulty.

Don't get off the tractor with the blades running.
