You're better off installing a DB Electrical after market starter as the rebuild is more than the replacement cost if it has a solenoid shift starter.

I have already taken it apart and cleaned it, but am having trouble getting the brushes back around the armature Any suggestions?

strong tooth picks or wooden skewers to hold them back works in some starters. Some brush holders even have a small hole to put the toothpick thru then pull it once the brush clears the armature.

also if there is a cover plate sometimes you can just lightly pull the braided wire that goes to the brush and retract them one at a time to slide the armature in. It is hard to tell you without seeing it or having it in my hand. Cut a piece of plastic pepsi bottle and use that as a tool to suppress them etc.. I'd have to see it to know for sure.
