the one I have is the 73 teardrop shroud with a d motor and caspin drive.I also learned decals are non existant as this was an experimental model to test the color scheme which must be the reason for the "x" in the model number. The original color seems to be an off white. If anyone has the chute and bag they want to sell let me know
Hello beg
Both the 1973 as well as the 1976 star's and stripe's mower's had the D-series engine's on them. They were the later made D-series engine's that had the Modular Carburetor's and early style CDI ignition's on them. Sadly, Both
the coil pack CDI Ignition 's as well as the Modular carburetor's had issues and they can not Interchange with any other style's of CDI or Carburetor's. The Modular Carburetor's were Prone to
leaking Gas due to the weird Needle & seat set up which consisted of a center spring under the float that applied pressure to the float assembly Pushing it upward's when the fuel bowl is full to shut off the gas supply in a full bowl. It is not uncommon for these float's to loose their seal at the center seam of them, then they take on gas making them sink from the extra weight,
Thus the flooding of gas. I have Taken out the Tiny rubber Needle in these float's and shook the Gas out that get's Trapped inside, Then re-sealed the seam with a Product called
Seal -All. It can be bought at most auto stores and will seal that float seam but you have to get all of the gas out of the inside of the float first then wipe the seam down good with some
Gum-Out carburetor cleaner or lacquer thinner to rid it of the 2-cycle gas mixture as the Oil will keep the float from sealing good. The CDI Ignition coil pack's most often fail when the
engine is warm or been running. They will often kill the engine then it will not re-start until they cool off. If this is the case the CDI coil pack is shot and a new one will have to be placed and they run about $70.00-$95.00. It is for these two reason's that I do not like the Late D-series engines. Good luck with your's. Regards, Hammerdown
