Hi all
I have an SR1433 Snapper RER. I recently put a 16 hp B&S engine on it as the original 14.5 hp was worn out. It runs great. About 3 weeks ago, I cranked it up, engine cranked fine but as I put it into gear, it was very hesitant to move, almost as if the transmission/differential was slipping. It did eventually get up to full speed but each time I tried to climb some slight hills in our yard it would slow down tremendously. The engine maintains its RPM's through all of this. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Check the drive disc under the rear of the mower. It may be getting worn out. If may appear burnt and cracked.

I assume this is the disc with a rubber "edge" on it? It is cracked. So as the rubber wears out, it makes less contact with the disc attached to the crankshaft of the engine. Thanks

sounds like you found the cause of your problems. The rubber on the disc sticks up about 3/8 inch all the way around the disc on a new one.

You mentioned that you just replaced the engine. Did you make sure the metal drive disk on the motor shaft was spaced correctly.

I didn't catch the replaced the engine part. If the disc isn't adjusted correctly it can cause the symptoms that you described also. The cracked drive disc does need replaced though.

We replaced the engine approx. 2 months ago. It has worked great for probably 3 lawn mowings(my lawn is approx. an acre with about 1/2 acre of mowable area). After some rain, I did accidentally mow into some soft ground and got stuck which I would imagine contributed significantly to the wear on the disc. Thanks for all the help.
