If the same in past has not made this noise then the spindle bearings are most likely going bad.

Are they Hi-lift blades, those can make more noise.

Is this a trick question? That is what a mower sounds like when blades are spinning.

Mow about 10 minutes and shut the engine off to check bearing housing temperature by feel . If a bearing is bad , the temperature of that housing will be above the others .

Occasionally a grass build up of clippings will cause a odd sound.

No, If blades has always made the same noise then it is the blades. It is when the noise changes that something has changed. Different blades due to design makes different noises. Usually it is an air noise just like helicopters rotary wing makes a lot noise on lift off but has the wing gets feather out the noise is reduced.
