Sponge filter from cap dropped into fuel tank

HI, I managed to drop the sponge filter from the petrol tank cap into the mowers petrol tank today, I emptied most of the fuel but cannot see the spongy filter. Does anyone know, will this harm the mower if I use it?

It should not hurt anything, but I would get it out if at all possible. It may take you a couple of tries to find it. Don't worry if it takes a couple of days. When you see it, take a coat hanger, bend a hook at one end and fish it out. I would get a new cap with a sponge filter in it, helps keep dirt out. Patience is what you will need now, you'll get it.
