I have a 2000 Troy Bilt riding mower, model 40777 Intek V Twin. I took of the old solenoid and went to put new one on but the new one is a little different. There are two big post, battery and starter and a small wire. The small solenoid wire is on the opposite side of the old solenoid. It's been about a week since I took it off and I put on a brand new wiring harness, so the new wires don't curve to their original position. There is no lettering or markings on the solenoids.

I went by which side the battery post is to make a guess. It seems to work OK. Is there a right way and wrong way to connect these? Even though it works OK now, if it is not right, it will cause problems down the road?

The big lugs on the solenoid are not side specific. Neither are the small lugs if it has two.
