Hi All,

I just bought a 3.6acre block with 2 acres clear and flat and 1.6 hilly terrain small hill ranges to 24 degree slope and larger hill is 20 degree (used a phone app to measure)

I have been looking at mowers for 3 weeks now and am stuck on these models in my price range

Scag Freedom Z - $8500 (Briggs) Pros - Heavy duty looking build, ROPS as standard Cons - Briggs motor, small width (less traction on hills) 48 inch deck
Ferris IS600Z - $8800 (Briggs) - Pros - Hydros, Rops as standard Large width and tyres, 16kmph Cons - Briggs motor, 48inch deck
Hustler Fastrak - $8900 (Kawasaki) Pros - Good build quality can get as 52inch Cons - No ROPS, ZT-3100 hydro
Bobcat Fast Cat Pro - $getting a quote (kawasaki) Pros - Hydros, Large width and tyres, 16kmph Cons - 48inch deck, No ROPS

From what I can work out on my own Bobcat and ferris seem the go as have the best hydro's (Dual Hydro-Gear ZT-3400) proving the highest torq which makes me think it would tackle those hills, Bigger wheels and faster (if that makes any diff)

Apart from that im new to this and this will be my first ride on. suggestions welcome

I was in the same boat as you. However I was between toro ferris and SCAG. I was already to buy a toro titan but I found a brand new ferris is600 for 4999 with a Kawasaki engine on it at a different dealer. Yes it had the 48 deck but that's what I was looking for. Personally I wouldn't even look at the SCAG unless your buying a 10000 dollar mower. I wouldn't buy Bob cat but I hear there good mowers. I would get a Ferris. It will hold up longer. It has a better warranty then anyone else. Look at the toro titan MX 5060 I believe. Its a good mower for around 5500. Hope I have helped

Have you ever thought about a Toro Grandstand. You can buy those for the same money and have the benefits of the zero turn and walk-behind in one. There also great on hills and can mow up to a 20 degree slope, most ztr are rated for 15 degree. They also come with pumps and wheel motors and there more maneuverable and are quicker response than a ZTR. Exmark also has the same mower but they call it the Vantage. I'm not saying the mowers you're looking at aren't good mowers because they are but I've been that route and I'll never buy another ZTR.
