My Ariens snowblower starts fine but then sputters . flames come out of muffler and the engine dies what is causing this,

The exhaust valve is not closing properly, or sticking open temporarily.

should i remove ovh cover and should i rechecked the valve clearence or should the exhaust vave be removed and cleaned thaks

check valve clearance first and then if that doesn't fix it then I would remove the head and clean the valve.
