I have a 21" walk behind snapper P217018BV and I am having an issue with the self propel. When the ground speed control handle is anywhere but the past position and while the mower is on the handle well ever so slowly move into the fast position until it reaches the fastest position. it doesn't matter if the wheel drive control lever is depressed or not. This is annoying me. Any idea on how to fix this?

Check for play in the bearing that is to the left of the rubber driven wheel. This bearing supports the hex shaft and if the bearing is failing it could allow the shaft to tilt which in turn could allow the driven disc to move to a faster position.

Let me know if this is the problem.

I replaced the bearing as well as the driven disk (cantilever) and I am still having the same problem. Any new ideas?

Check the bolt & nut assembly that holds the speed control handle together. Sometimes tightening the bolt applies more pressure to the handle movement and may prevent it from moving so freely.

Check it and let me know what you find.
