Hi everyone!
I have a 28" Snapper rider rear engine. Slowly but surely reverse was getting harder to engage until the shift lever broke off but it still ran in forward. I bought the new shift lever, and asked the dealer what could be the problem. He said that it was a common thing and all I had to do was loosen two bolts on shift plate and push it back some and that should do it. Well, that didnt do it. Putting it in different positions, trying it, over and over but could never get reverse to engage. It is reallly hard to push lever back and it is starting to bend like the original one. Now, when it is in neutral, it eventually jumps into 1st.
Any ideas on how I can get this puppy running right again?
Thanks for any help.

Results engine operators manual & parts list.

Results information, see page 20 & adjust cable. Check out pages 16 & 17 in illustrated parts series 19 smooth clutch assembly. Is clutch slipping while driving, hard to get into all gears, lurching forward after putting in gear? Check fluid level in back axle by removing plug, item 14 page 12 in parts manual.

Thanks for your reply. I have another question for you, the pages you give me are for the blade adjustment and pages 16 & 17 are for engine maintenance. When I bought the new shift lever for the drive system, the man at the Snapper place said that the two bolts (pic enclosed) on either side of the lever should be pushed back to get reverse to work. I tried different positions and the drive mechanism under the back does not seem to be binding. I am at a loss over what you sent me and what the man said at the dealer.
