Snapper 28 RER HiVac

While mowing today lost something in the drive train.

With engine off,

Rubber tire is engaging drive plate when in a gear.

But tractor rolls back/forth as no connection between rear wheels and rubber wheel.

If I am in neutral I can roll tractor back forth -- I can see rubber wheel moving in concert -- but I can easily hold and stop rubber wheel from moving.

I I squeeze the dust guards on main wheel shaft I can feel a hex shaft rotating, but I can easily hold and stop that shaft from rotating with rear drive wheels rolling back/forth.

If I put into gear then rubber wheel engages plate and cannot be moved, but rear wheels roll freely.

Advice appreciated.

Here are a few general pics of it's innards, one more test to try, is flip the mower up on it's back, {it's made to do this} just watch the battery leaking, and shut off the vent on the cap.

While up on it's rear, rotate one of the tires, and see if the opposite wheel goes in the opposite direction. Try it both ways, and listen down there
for any odd noise.

Took the easy way out and just jacked up rear end.

Wheels do rotate in opposite direction. No noise, very quiet when rotating, no slop or play as move back/forth.

In all forward gears, rubber wheel is pressed to driving disk so it does not rotate - and rear wheels rotate freely in opposite directions, not engaged to anything.

So is it a chain somewhere?

Rear end off floor.
In neutral.
Can rotate rubber tire wheel and both rear wheels will move forward or backward. BUT it is very easy to stop rear wheel from rotating while rubber tire wheel is being rotated.

So the motion can get from rubbertire wheel to rear wheels, but it's a though a clutch is slipping somewhere in the path between.

Yes, there are chains in there, and no easy, quick fix. Just make sure that a spring hasn't broke that holds the rubber disc/wheel tight against
the drive plate, make sure that there is at least 1/4-3/8" worth of rubber on it too. Make sure it is not just slipping.

Sorry, I cannot be more help, but I would have to be there on this one. So you were just mowing along and "bang" this just happened?
Or is there any other details?
