Snapper Easy Speed Not Running Confused

Hello,

I have a Snapper Easy Speed lawn mower that will not run. Here is a little background: I was mowing my lawn a few weeks ago when suddenly the mower's blade was caught up in a bunch of fishing line that for some unknown reason was in the lawn (we just recently moved to a new house). When I was trying to trouble shoot the cause of the seize (before knowing it was fishing line) I looked at the gas level and noticed it was a little low. So immediately I thought, lets fill it up with gas and try it again. Nope didnt run. So the I looked under the lawn mower tilting it upwards (handle bars down) and tried to clear it. Since it was difficult to clear I tilted it on its side (which I think was a mistake). I tilted it on the filter/ carburetor side and cleared the blade and shaft. when I tried to restart it, the mower starts and then putters off slowly and dies. It all happens within a few seconds (depending on how much I prime it).

What I have done:
I have started the mower WITHOUT the air filter...same problem
I have undone the carburetor plug and stuck a ornament wire hook through to clear the holes...same problem
I have checked the oil level...full
Gas is full
There was gas in the carburetor when I removed it, so it shouldnt be the fuel line.
Spark plug has a gap in it.

I am at a loss here as what it could be. Any suggestions before I spend a fortune on a new mower?

Thank you,

Andrew

If the blade stopped abruptly it could of resulted in shearing the flywheel key.

Though the blade still moves in the few moments the mower sputters on....probably should have mentioned that.
