Hey all,

I'm new here, and hoping that y'all will be able to help me with this problem, I got a 33" 33148KVE RER with a Kohler 14HP motor from a friend last summer. It has been a great mower until this problem started.

The motor runs great in neutral, but when I engage the blades or the transmission the engine runs fine for about 30 seconds then begins to bog down, pops and backfires, and will die. If I disengage the blades or transmission before the engine dies, the engine begins to run fine. I checked all wiring, and all appears to be intact and ok.

Any thoughts or further questions?

Any help is appreciated.

First thing I would check are he idler tension pulley on both the deck belt and drive belt. If they are not free and turning smoothly it could be causing your problem.

You might also want to check the Blade Spindle. When the mower is shut off, the blade should spin freely, with little or no resistance. Quite often, greasing this spindle is overlooked, and when the mower is powered up and the belt drive encounters much resistance, it will cause an "overload" in the entire drive train....motor included.

Do you have the throttle set high when engaging?

Make sure tank vent is open. Believe it or not, this can cause the motor to stall.
