Smoke when leaning right or left

I have a Craftsman LT 1000 with a 17.5 Brigs that runs and operates excellent....EXCEPT when leaning to the side! I have a steep ditch that runs the length of my property and has to be mowed. When driving one way with the right side wheels in the ditch, leaning the tractor to the right, the mower runs normal. However, if when I get to the end and try to mow the other side with the left wheels in the ditch, it will run about 10 or 15 feet and suck up a huge gulp of oil and cloud up the entire yard with smoke! If I don't right the machine immediately, it will stall the engine. Once righted again, it will restart, clear itself and run normal again. It's as though there is a vent tube or something that has gone amuck and is out of position maybe. Anyone know the cause of this problem?

Look behind the carb and see if there is a cover with a black tube coming out of it and going to the carb. that is the breather and will allow oil to get into the carb and be burnt. Most of the newer engines have the breather on top, but the flat head briggs, and the older OHV engines had the breather as part of the valve cover behind the carb.

make sure the oil isn't overfilled, because this will make the problem worse.
