Slippery Seat?

Related to my question an trying to make the seat safety switch less sensitive, I also find this seat to be really slippery (Crafstman T2600). Any good approaches for a decent non-slip surface? I might just glue some rubber strips to it or something.

Thanks, I'll consider that. From the reviews on Amazon, it looked like a mixed bag as to whether this cover was slippery or not though.

I actually saw one on the seat of a display tractor in the local Sears store, so apparently some Sears have them as a regular stock item, which might afford you the opportunity to evaluate it in a store rather than ordering one and returning it if it's not good.

I didn't try it out, but now wish that I had since I like the concept myself.

before anything on the seat, you may want to try washing it with some dishsoap or a degreaser. it could have a mold release type agent or something like armor all( make it all Purdy for sale)on it causing the slipperyness.

That was a good call. It does kind of feel like the car dashboard after you rub some Armor-All into it.

I cleaned it with a strong solution of Oxy-Clean and a scrubby. It helped, but still pretty slick.

Then I decided to go all cave-man on it, and hit it with a fresh sheet of 60 grit sandpaper. In a minute, I had it all buffed out to a pretty even flat-black look, and that made a HUGE difference. My butt stays planted in there now. I expect that will do the trick, but we will see the next time I mow.


Now, if I can get the seat switch desensitized, ( posted >>> here <<< ) that will go a long way towards me getting comfortable with this new mower (which I like well enough, just always some new things to adjust to, including the CVT). The tight turn is fantastic though.
