Shuts Down in Reverse

I have a Craftsman riding mower. Lately when I put it reverse, with the blade engaged, the mower does a quick "backfire", then shuts down.

It runs great in reverse when the blade is not engaged.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be????

Dirty seat safety switch or a short in the safety circuit wiring.

It is working as intended if it shuts down in reverse with the deck engaged, unless you have the reverse bypass system engaged, which I don't know if you have or not.

Some mowers have a switch somewhere on the mower that can be turned to allow it to mow in reverse, he may have it and not know it. Of course the model number
off of the tag behind/below the seat would help!!!

Craftsman tractors you have to turn the key 1 click back after starting to mow in reverse

This sounds like it could be rather annoying. What is the purpose of this? They don't want you turning around?

Some units have that feature on the keyswitch, some at another location, which is why model numbers would be useful.
