Are there any shrubs that provide color in the fall? I know there's a Red Twig Dogwood, but I don't want a tree. Are there any shrubs that have color on their branches, either all the time or in the fall?
Burning Bush is a lovely shrub that is red in fall. It grows in zone 3-8 and can reach 10 feet tall. It can be cut back to any size you want. There's a barberry that has a reddish-purplish color, too, but I don't know much about it. Hopefully, someone else can tell you more about it.
About.com says the following:
Shrub, Bush & Vine Top 10 for Fall Colors
Arrowwood viburnum (Viburnum dentatum)
Sumac
Fothergilla
Tor Spirea
Blackhaw Viburnum
American Bittersweet
Oakleaf Hydrangea
Virginia Creeper
Red Chokeberry
Viking Black Chokeberry
I looked the Burning Bush up and I like the color and the fact that you can cut it back to whatever size you want. The Barberry is nice, too, but I don't like the fact that it has thorns. I'll look at the others later, but I really like the burning bush. Thanks for the help everyone.
