shredding drive belt

03 Cub GT1554 is shredding drive belts after a few hours of use. Pulleys etc. are in good shape and spacers etc. have been replaced. I notice that the replacement belt is super tight after I install it. My thinking is the belt is so tight that it generates heat and destroys the belt. Belt is very hot to the touch after a few minutes of use. I have other mowers and they have loose drive belts but work fine...I did not replace with an original cub belt. Is there an adustment to loosen tension on the drive belt that I am not seeing?

First off MTD products require the use of OEM or OEM equivalent belts. There is no substitute due to special lengths and cut angles. Then I would look for shiny spots on the belt guides or anything that is close to making contact to the belt since they can cause a slicing effect on belts.

I agree with IL, you need an OEM belt. Secondly if the belt is getting hot I would be checking for a bad pulley which is creating heat.
