I have a 3 year old Craftsman manual shift riding mower.Peerless 206-565 trans axle.Last fall I was in third gear and pushed the brake ,when i releaed the shifter jumped to a higher gear.It poped the shift linkage rod. I have replaced this rod twice plus the belt. When disconnected manually working the shift lever it seems fine.It just happened again and now going up a hill I hear a noise coming from the trans-axle. Up-hill only. Any ideas?

Worn shift keys or gear allowing the shift pin to jump slots in the gear under load.
