I have just removed, sharpened and replaced the blade of my MTD Spider 75 ride on. When I went to cut my grass I hear a rattling noise and upon investigation I thing it may be caused by the fan. Could you please advise me if the blade and fan rotate in unison and if so how are the secured to each other. cheers

Not finding much on MTD Spider, look under the seat and get the model number, usually on a sticker.
The blade should be on the deck, driven by a belt, that's on the crankshaft pulley as far as i know, the fan would be the cooling fan ontop of the engine that is also attached to the crank..
are you sure you got the blade on tight?

Comes back as a 76 RD (MTD 12/76). The fan is mounted (clamped) between the blade and spindle shaft so yes they rotate as one. The OP probably doesn't have the blade mounted on the six star correctly or left out the washer. Once correctly mounted the spindle hex screw needs to be torque to specs. It is a hex screw M10x1x60LG. DIN 96. Most likely a grade 8.8 but a 10.9 would be better. Also notice the 28X40X0.3 washer between the blade and the fan.
