I have a Simplicity Broadmoor 1693818 (my personal favorite for several years) riding mower. But it always messes up, every week I can count on either the blades not engaging, the deck belt flying off or just not starting. I remove the clutch debris, but it still doesn't work but once a month.
Any tips will be appreciated. SCAG owners suggest I sell it and get a goat. . .

sounds like the deck and PTO need an overhaul to be sure everything is in good condition. Worn pulleys, belts, bearings, electric grounds and wire connectors etc..

Bummer, I replaced the pulleys and tensioner last year to no avail. I'll just sell it for parts.

go thru it again. Start by making sure you have the correct belt and not just a clone. Belts have

length
width
angle
compound
style like ribbed or non-ribbed
fiber type

Next make sure the deck is not warped over the years
Check all the electrical connectors to be sure none are corroded and that any ground straps are correct and in good condition.
Check all the mounts to be sure none are loose.
Recheck all the pulleys

Or find a competent shop to take it to.
