I would first off check for spark by taking the spark plug out and check for spark. if no spark check if the kill switch contacts off the engine are separating completely where your bale cable connects. if still no spark take the engine shroud off and disconnect the ground cable from the coil and check again. this will isolate the coil from the kill switch. if still no spark its the coil. I you have spark go through the carburetor and clean out thoroughly pay close attention to the main and pilot jet making sure those are completely clean. if it has a Tecumseh the main jet is actually the bowl nut so make sure that's clean. it also wouldnt help putting a carb kit in. those are the most likely reasons but it could be other things like a stuck valve if it's a four stroke.
