Hi all. I was mowing a few days ago when my self propel gave out. It is RWD, and now in addition the rear wheels will not roll backwards. It was purchased in February of last year and apparently still under warranty. Any ideas what the problem could be? It's a Honda HRR216VKA..

If you'll share the serial number with me, I can confirm the warranty status of the mower. Also tell me your ZIP code and I can give you a list of Honda dealers in your area; I'd have them inspect and evaluate the mower, and make sure they don't do any work on the mower without your approval. Some shops will charge you a flat fee for diagnosis, but drop it if the problem is covered under warranty.

The serial number is here on the back of the mower deck:

Serial number is MZCG-8697882. Zip code is 27616. Thanks very much. In the manual it says that there's a 36 month warranty, it's only been 15.

Absolutely, get the mower to a dealer and have them inspect and test everything...be sure you and the dealer agree on what is or is not covered under the factory warranty BEFORE they do any work.

Records for that serial number show it was wholesaled by Honda to a dealer in Fort Mill, SC, on 1/24/2013. Honda did not receive a registration card from the first retail buyer (I assume that is you) the system indicates it was retailed on 2/22/2013, and the warranty will expire on 2/21/2016. IF you would, please send me a private message with your name and address, and I will update the registration database to show you as the current owner. Honda asks for this in the unlikely event there is ever a product safety recall and needs to contact you.

Here are some local dealers; be advised this is a VERY busy time of the year for mower repairs and it may take some time before they can take a close look at your mower.

Dang Robert, I'm not running a Honda but seeing service like that from you makes me want a Honda for my next mower. It's good to see people stand behind their products and look to support good service, rather then find excuses not to. Stand up job sir!

Thanks for the kind words. Hanging out here and helping is a joy, not a job.

I have been really busy and not able to take the mower in, so I checked it out myself. The belt had slipped off of the transmission. I took the blades off and gave the belt some slack. It was a really tight space to work with but I finally got it back on track and is working great now.
