having trouble with my is4000.unit bogs down when under load going up hill, thick grass. Seems to be a problem with governor . I have no idea how to adjust, repair or replace it. I think it is internal. Could someone out there pleeeese tell me how it works and how to access it.previously it adjusted for load asin adjusting gas going up hill to maintain steady speed. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance. Forgot to mention it has a dihatsu 3cyl. Gas engine.

Is the deck clean underneath?

Thick grass...dirty deck =bogging down.

Just a shot in the dark...as the simplest answer is usually the correct one.

You need to get the service manual for your engine and follow the directions. Before you play with the governor, consider your fuel / air supply. Get new filters and run a cleaner like Mechanic in a Bottle through your system to see if that helps.

With no load at low idle rpm and the throttle increased to high idle with no load, if the rpm increases to full rated speed there isn't anything wrong with the governor. Look elsewhere for the under power solution.

Birdog, Not familiar with Daihatsu. Is it a two stroke? The symptoms may be enrichment problem. Have you pulled the plugs and read color of porcelin? Under power an engine demands different mix strength than steady state. Amount of gas or mix (carb). Fuel feed (float/needle)??
