Sears ZTS6000 Mower Clutch

I have a Sears ZTS6000 mower and I have had nothing but problems with it. Right now my PTO clutch will not keep running. If I leave the switch on the mover will engage then stop, then start for a few seconds then stop again and so on. I thought maybe there was a short in the wires, but they look ok. Does anyone have an idea what's wrong?
