my scag tiger cat with a 26 hp briggs motor.I started it this season but i tried to start it and it wont. the battewry was dead so i hooked up a jumper. The starter turns a little and make the sound of the starter but not any sound of turning over to start. I took out the spark plugs and rested them on the metal and turned the key and no spark.I checked the fuses and they were ok along with all the safety switches engaged. I replaced the spark plugs and still no spark. I really dont think the coils could have both went bad at the same time but do you think this may be the case because i really dont want to replace both of them if it is un needed. is there another safty or a inline fuse i am not seeing? o yeah, i do have good gas in it but with out a spark it doesnt really matter.please help. the mower is dry and like i said, i had it started a couple weeks ago. the jumper is enough to jump a full size truck so i know it is powerful enough but one thing i concidered was that i was not sure if a jumper gave a constant flow or a short burst but still thought i would see a spark of some sort

it would be odd for both modules to go at the same time, unless the key switch shorted and set 12 v to the modules, which will cook them instantly. Disconnect the ground wire from the coils/igntion modules and then crank to see if you have fire. If yes, then there is something shorting the kill circuit to ground. If no then both modules are dead, and I would make sure you are not getting 12 v to the modules, before replacing.

To test to see if you have a 12 v short connect a meter to the ground wire, and turn the key from off to on multiple times, it you get voltage once, then replace the key switch. If cotinuous voltage you will need to find the short.

The bad part about jump starting a mower is the diodes in the Vr, and other possible fuse links that can get burnt out. I was told to always un-plug the VR wire before jumping a mower off to avoid these problems. It still could be a a safety switch issue though, or lack of ground somewhere.
