The Tiger ran til about 2 yesterday. It cut off at the end of a commercial property , and then wouldn't start back up. You could turn the key , and it sounded like the starter was trying to turn the engine over , but it just won't fire up? need help asap .
Thank you

Hope you got it off the site and back to your garage. You need to trouble shoot several things.
Is it getting gas?
Are all the safties disengaged and tested so they work?
Spark at the engine?

How old is your unit and what make engine do you have. I'm willing to bet its a Kawasaki.

Guys

I have been fighting the same type issue for a year now (my local Scags Dealer is technically challenged! :>) This is what I have come up with so far.

I believe that my issue, and maybe Georges is the "sensor" system and/or related components. What happens is when we would mow our 5 acres and the TurfTiger gets hot....if you shut the mower down it would most likely not restart. What I have ultimately found is that when this happens all I have to do is "short" the main B+ terminal to the small 1/4" terminal on the starter (better use a 12+ gauge solid wire because of current) and "bingo" the mower re-starts every time.

I have tested every switch on the handle bars, seat and brake. All good. When the unit is cold, it might or might not start up. Mow for a couple of hours, turn the mower off. Won't start!

Here's what it is....I BELIEVE.

Inside the control panel there is a electronic "module" and an rather large black mechanical relay. The Module is what detects and gives the go ahead to start if all the "conditions" are met i.e. handles out, PTO off, seat switch compressed and brake on. Then and ony then will the TT start. Now...even if all sensors are good and the module is good...still, the high current "starter" relay may be bad. That relay is what is activates when you turn the key to start, which then carrys the current to the starter. THERE's the most likely issue I think in that is mechanical.

Disclaimer: Hell I'm just and amatuer/end-user. I may be wrong about any and or all of the above. I'm convinced that if unit gets hot, wont start and yu can use the method above to
manually" start the mower....it's either one of the sensors, module or relay in console. Be careful when bypassing "the system". BIG safety issue.

Hope this helps.

To add to the topic (this is not the original posters problem) Saturday I had an electrical issue with one of my lawn tractors. I checked all the switches and everything tested fine. I wasn't sure about the starter solenoid and found these links on youtube that answered my questions on how does a solenoid work / how to test a solenoid.

My solenoid is for sure dead, and I have ordered a replacement.

The solenoid has a coil of wire inside. When the little wire energizes the coil, it pops a plunger upwards to connect the heavy wires that feed power to the starter. On a 4 pole solenoid (like my tractor) 1 little wire is a ground, the other is positive when the ignition switch sends it power.

If the little wire is energized, then the solenoid must pop the little plunger which connects the heavy red cables, otherwise the solenoid is junk.

Sounds like your battery wasn't charging. First thing, check your fuses. This is a common problem with Scag mowers.
I've been fighting charging issues for a year now...
