Had the same thing happen to my Turf Tiger....ended up being the clutch.
It has run flawlessly for about a month now after replacing the clutch.
The clutch replacement job took me a whopping ten minutes to complete.
Do you have a good Ohm-meter?
If it is an Ogura clutch, you should have 2.8-3.2 Ohms across the clutch.
If it is a Warner Electric, you should have 2.3-2.9 Ohms.
Mine, when tested, had 0.7 Ohms. Remember that V=IR, so if your resistance is 1/4 of what it should be, then your current will be 4 times higher than it should be given the same voltage across the clutch...hence the reason that your switch melted and fuse blew...You might want to make sure that it didnt take out the voltage regulator as well.
