Hello, I have a 52" SCAG Hydro with the 17HP Kawasaki and would like to replace the engine with something larger like a 22HP Kohler, Kawasaki, Brigs or other reputable brand. Will I need to make modifications and what are the engine numbers?

You will probably need to make modifications but you won't know for sure until you settle on an engine.
Did you research your existing engine crankshaft dimensions yet??? Did you research the re-power engine crankshaft dimensions yet??? Did you research the bolt pattern yet??? Did you research.......yet??? Get my drift??? What are your existing engine numbers??? Google is your friend.
