I use a Scag STMH 61" to cut 2 acres and it is a great machine.

I have been losing hydrostatic power. It work good in reverse but not so great in forward. I have checked the mechanical adjustments and that is good so looks like the pump and or wheel drives are now 'tired'. Otherwise, deck, engine etc all in great condition so would like to repair.

The main drive pump is Sundstrand Scag Part No: 481100

Does anyone know:
1. Which series/size Sundstrand pump this is - they seem to go by 'series'?
2. Is an overhaul kit available?
3. Has anyone rebuilt the sundstand pump and wheen pumps - how tricky and what was the result?
4. Is there an alternative aftermarket pump that is good and will fit?

Feedback appreciated.

Regards

Jer

Before you go all postal on the pump try replacing the drive belt. It is much more likely to be the belt over the pump.

You have made me think and I will check that again in terms of the pulley alignment and belt condition. Have you lost pump power/hill climb ability with a tired belt?

It looked just like the new one except the V part was smaller buy just a little. I woild have never thought that would cause so much trouble.

The best part about changing the belt first is that even if you need to fix the pump after this the belt needed to be changed. So no loss starting here first.
