A very simple test to perform is to check for voltage at the starter solenoid signal wire while holding the key in the start position. You should have 12 volts at the solenoid small signal wire when trying to start the engine.

Since the engine starts when you jump the solenoid (not jumping from another vehicle), it tells me that the battery has sufficient charge to start the engine and to be looking at the control side of the circuit.

Perform the test and tell me the outcome.

Idont know what you mean by comparable? Pull the new switch and look at the backs of both switches side by side. They may have the same number of terminals in the same location, but the terminals may not control the same components. If you look closely at the terminals, you will see letters identifying what each terminal is used for.

There is a cranking relay located near the keyswitch. When all the machine safety circuits are in the correct positions, the electronic control module will ground the cranking relay allowing the starting circuit to get power to operate the starter solenoid.
Ensure that all the electrical system grounds are OK, particularly the terminals located on one of the engine mounting bolts.
