Scag PTO problem

I have a older Scag Turf Tiger and having trouble with the PTO, It will engage when I first start mowing but if I shut the mower of to pick up a piece of wood or something the PTO will not engage again. You can let it sit for a minute or so and will start to engage but now it will not engage after I shut it off , have to let almost sit over night to get it to work. Any Idea?

If it is the type of clutch that is triangle shaped with the nuts and springs on each corner with a slot new to the spring it may need adjusted. Put a .012-.016 feeler gauge between the two disc in the slot and slowly turn the nuts a little at a time while checking the gap to maintain the same gap all the way around and see what happens.
