Scag PTO Clutch Conversion Kit problem

My mower is an STC48A-CV about 11 years old. The PTO clutch has failed and the Scag replacement is part # 461715 which is actually a conversion kit containing clutch, bolts, and a new anti-rotation bracket. The new clutch is slightly different than the old and one of the steps in the installation procedure for my serial number range, after removing the old clutch of course, is to cut of the legs of the existing anti-rotation bracket. The new clutch is then installed and the new anti-rotation bracket, supplied with the conversion kit, is then to be bolted on to the old bracket using the bolt hole in the original bracket that held the wire clamp for the old clutch. The problem is that the replacement bracket does not line up with the existing hole because the anti-rotation legs contact the clutch body. It appears to be a design error to me, but when I contacted Scag about it, I was told there shouldn't be a problem because they've sold many of these kits without issue.

Has anyone had to install this conversion and had similar problems?

Did some research & came up with part # 461660 scroll down to 5th parts list for 2003 model. I'd take the clutch back and ask for your money back. Evidently they gave you the wrong clutch. Let us know how it works out.

Did some research & came up with part # 461660 scroll down to 5th parts list for 2003 model. I'd take the clutch back and ask for your money back. Evidently they gave you the wrong clutch. Let us know how it works out.

The clutch that comes in the conversion kit is the 461660 and my serial number is included in the range of numbers for which the kit applies. I spoke with the local dealer and they said they haven't seen my particular issue, but they may not have done any clutch replacements on my serial number range either. They did confirm that the force applied to the anti-rotation bracket is small and that it probably wouldn't hurt anything if I had to cut down the bracket. I also contacted Ogura Industrial about the anti-rotation force and they responded within 24 hrs saying the force is small. This was my judgement as well but it was good to get the confirmation. I therefore modified the bracket as necessary so it would clear the clutch frame, installed, tested, and then ran it for two hours mowing my lawn. All seems well, but it would have been a lot easier if just one inch and one hole were added to the bracket. With those simple changes it would have bolted right on, saving me many hours of research, worry, and work. I sent pics of the bracket modifications to the Technical Service Manager at Scag.
