I have a Scag Tiger Cub purchased in 2004. It is equipped with a Kawasaki 19 hp [FH 601-V]. It has approximately 510 hours. Recently the engine will stop intermittently stop for no apparent reason. I have changed the fuel filter and made sure a there is good gas flow. I think it is an electrical problem. I have cleaned the ground. In addition I have treated the pressure switches with electrical contact cleaner. I think the problem could be in the relay [Part #48788] or the Interlock Module [Part 482313]. Since the failures are intermittent is there anyway to test these parts? Before buying replacement parts I seek your wise counsel. BTW after 510 hours this is the first problem I have had.Thanks......Janus

All electrical plugin connectors are possible problems from dirt and corrosion.
I suggest that you first disconnect the battery positive cable and then disconnect each electrical connector, inspect and clean each one at a time and reconnect. This includes the connector on the rear of the keyswitch. Keyswitches can be problematic also as all electrical power to the machine and from the charging system is controlled by it. On the female connectors, you can use a small jewelers screwdriver to release the female terminals from the plastic plug so you can clean them. Do this one at a time and make notes as to which hole they came out of. There is a little tab on the female terminals that locks them into the plastic plug, this tab may need to be bent back out some so it will lock and hold the female terminal in the plastic plug/connector.

the kawasaki carburator has a solenoid on it that shuts the fuel flow off to the carburator when it is switched off. if this is failing it will shut down just like a safety switch violation. it may restart and run for a while then do it again.

There are a lot of switches to check; seat, neutral, mower engagement, etc. There are also relays such as the ones you seek.

I don't know of anyway to check short of a full-on system manual, which I don't have with me. Scag has their manuals online, though and you can check the schematics there.

For TN Dave,
Good call! It was the carburator solenoid. They are sure proud of those things. Thanks again for the help.
