I have a CS30 Ryobi String Trimmer. I don't have specific model/part number for the engine right now, but it is about 9 years old and I am pretty sure the clutch is on its way out if it isn't already totally fried. Last year the shaft snapped and I had to replace it, and when using it this past weekend I noticed that every time I would hold the head on the ground to stop it from spinning the engine dies out as the head slows down. I'm leery of continuing to use it because I don't want to have to put another new shaft on it. Since I've had it apart at least part way before, I know the general procedure, but last year when I tore it down I could not get hte clutch cover off. I know there is a T25 torx screw inside the shaft, but I could not get it off. I 'jammed' the cylinder with a piece of rope, and got the Torx screw inside the shaft to spin a little bit, but it never really 'broke loose' and spun freely. Any suggestions for getting this thing apart?

Just to update this thread a bit, I have gotten the clutch drum off my trimmer. It is similar to the one linked here: How to Fix the Starter on a Ryobi Trimmer : eReplacementParts.com

I've ordered a new set of two clutch plates:

Can anyone tell me if there is a specific direction or way that these have to go back on? My old ones were both broken in half, and the first one fell right off the shaft, and the second one was broken badly enough that I couldn't really tell which way it was supposed to be on. Thanks for any help anyone might be able to offer. The fact that I've found several tutorials related to removal and re-assembly of these plates and none of them specify a direction or anything for installing them leads me to believe it doesn't matter, but I'd rather know for sure before I put it back together...
