Maybe you could take some more pictures of other sides ot the tractor? It looks like 80s era Roper But I think they had Kohler engines in them then. Is that engine a transplant?

Yes think engine is not original.Inherited it no past work or service info on it.Other side of mower has same markings. Was told was used all the time but the starting issue i cant see how.Having to pull a plug is just not right.Otherwise compression so high truck wont turn it over to start.

Looks to be a Roper from the 80s but the motor is from 1995.

I don't think the engine is original. The engine is from 1995, Roper was bought by GE in 1989, and Roper outdoor unit was sold to AB Electrolux, Roper than became part of AYP (American Yard Products) division, which included the Husqvarna brand. Roper and the division became Husqvarna.

ok so not being familiar with IC engines heads have to be removed to resolve compression issue. When it does start(w1plug) and reinstalled motor runs very smooth and no smoking or misfires like to keep and put to work on 17 acres have 2 mowers with same engines same problem.

It is a common problem on the l-head twin engines, you likely have a bunch of carbon buildup in the combustion chambers. You need to remove the heads and de-carbon the heads and top of piston, etc... Also, grab and wiggle the top of the starter to check
for excessive slop in the top bearing, also another problem.
