Team,
My 15yo is tasked with the lawn basics, but between honor roles and covid has been behind for a bit this year. Knowing my 'maker' habit he said how about a robo mower?
Having done some research the cost/performence just isn't there for me, so he said "NO I mean us build one"
If it will get him involved I'm all about it so we start talking about motors and power and torque, weight of the blades, balance etc. Many of the DIY mowers seem to be moving towards the DISC blade (with teeth, like a bog saw blade) as opposed to the regular single prop.
so he said "Well why not use a metal string., like on a weed eater?
now he's never used a weed eater so he doesn't know about the Nylon and the 'bump and release' mechanism, however, the more I thought about it the more a steel string (piano wire, guitar string) might actually work.
sp then I was cruising the net last night and came across this
and it seemed like an economical build platform to start with?
Anyone used one?? anyone have an idea about the metal wire VS the nylon string?
this is totally uncharted territory for me (robots I know, mowers, not so much)
any and all opinions appreciated.
Thanks
J
