Riding vs. Walk-Behind

I'm in the market for a new mower for a new yard. I've typically used the traditional 21" self-propelled walk-behind Toro Super Recycler and I'm looking to upgrade. Here are my ideas:

- Ideally, I'd like something around 40", makes really nice lines and i'm indifferent as to whether it's riding or walk-behind.
- I found a nice John Deere D140 for $1900, which is right in my price range.

The only thing that I seem to find that is a larger walk-behind are commercial mowers, which are out of my price range and I don't feel like I need that strong/durable/intense of a mower. I'm mowing just under an acre. Not interested in the Toro 30" models as those don't seem real practical to me.

Any help/thoughts are appreciated.

If your talking about the Toro Turf master 30" it's a really good mower and would save you a lot of time over the 21". You may want to look at the Cub Cadet 1000 series lawn tractors something like the 1042 or 1045 with a 42 or 46" deck if your looking to go rider. Personally I'd go with the 1042 with the Kawasaki engine.
