Riding mower engine OFF.

I had to rewire my rider after the last owner butchered the wiring with a newer key switch.
It turns over and starts with all the safety switches working. It only ran for a short time (gas).
I"m not sure if the Off (M-G) position will kill the engine. I have the "G" terminal going to
frame ground. The "M" to the black wire from the engine.
My question is How do you know if it will "kill" the engine? What test will confirm kill?

disconnect the black wire from the ignition module, and put the red lead from your meter into connector, and the black lead to the frame ground. If you have continuity with the key off, and don't have continuity with the key on then it will work. Just make sure that you are not getting 12V to the ignition module when flipping from off to onm, especially with a briggs, or the not spark advance Kohlers.

Thanks. (Its a Tecumseh 10 HP) The plug has red and black from the engine.
I know some only have one wire.
I will try the ohm meter.

Checked the circuit today and it is good. Started the engine and made some adjustments to get it to idle and run.
I turned it OFF and it quit! I still don't like the throddle cable setting. I'll work on that. It sure is noisy.
