Hello everyone,

So my ride on mower, hydrostatic drive stops working when I turn tightly or drive on anything more than flat land. The machine is less than a year old and the hydraulic oil tank is showing the correct level of oil. Could this be the belt slipping? It is dry so it's not because of water. I read the manual that came with the mower and apparently the belt is self tensioning so that's left me confused as to what it could be.
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Double check to see if the belt is worn or if the idler pulley is making full travel. A worn belt will not grab the pulley properly and if the idler pulley is not t.raveling far enough, it will not put enough tension on the belt. Also, check to see that the idler pulley bearing is not worn or wobbles.

Do you notice that it is worse when the machine is hot? Maybe I should say when you "first" run it, does it seem to be better then gradually get worse?

Is your Westwood new to you or only a year old? I would take it back to the dealer if you can.

Has your Westwood got the Handbrake or Footbrake?

If handbrake then it could be the belt is running slack due to linkage not set up properly.

You have 2 black idle pulleys with bearings which could be worn or seized or belt is worn. A belt usually lasts longer than a year.

Have you been towing with it?

It also could be oil is needing change or worst case transmission which should/could be warranty.

The machine is 7 months old. So newly manufactured, It has a handbrake which is connected to it. When the hand brake is applied it slackens the belt and applied a brake however the machine can still be pushed even with the hand brake on...
This machine has never towed anything, just cut the grass for half a season.

As pug said, take it back to the dealer, don't void your warranty trying to repair.

Okay, thanks for the help everyone. Just wondering though, what would stop it from working when it gets warm?
