Reverse is very slow

I have a 18 month old Sears Craftsman Pro Series (Model #247-20442) 24 HP - 46" Deck, with a hydrostatic transmission - the foot-pedal type. It goes forward without any issues, but does not want to back up, or I should say it backs up very slow on my concrete garage floor, but barely backs up at all on an incline or on grass. Is there a solution to my problem that is diy or do I need to take it back to Sears?

Clean the rear end. you will find stuff around the linkage for your foot pedal.

On my mower I can hook my foot behind the forward pedal and pull it back to get quite a bit more reverse power/speed. Some older mowers lose reverse at a pretty early age too, no real help for this.
