Pulling 26HP Kohler engine off frame. How do you get pulley off shaft that is above electric clutch. Don't see a locking screw & I don't have a puller. Can I get this off without a puller? Thanks

And what gender and species are we working on. I will make an assumption, and everybody knows where that leads. You are working on the Craftsman, so in most cases the pulley should slide off when you remove the electric clutch. in some cases I have had to cut the top pulley off various mowers because it was seized to the shaft.

ILENGINE: The gender is Craftsman & species is mower with Kohler. Sorry I left that out. I think you answered my question. Thanks

If there is a sleeve tubing portion you can get to with a couple of hammers ( 1 for backup ) tap, tap, tap the sides of it in a couple different positions to distort it just enough to break a crusty bond that sometimes forms over the years.

Thanks Senior Citizen: I'm a senior 76yr old. I have been soaking it with penetrating oil over night. I was going to try heating it but your way seems safer. Thanks for the help.

Sometimes I have been successful using a pry bar. Something that is small enough to slide in between top of the frame and bottom of the engine. Make sure you get the end of the bar as close to the shaft as possible otherwise you might bend or damage the pulley and you face new set of issues.
