Raptor Belt Guard Mod....

Hi guys,
I never recommend modifying a mower before the warranty period is up but this one had to be done.

Even the dealer told me to run it with the covers off because they are like little sacks that collect all kinds of belt destroying goodies.

Since I have done this mod the top of my deck has been perfectly clean,no grass at all and the belt looks great!!

Enjoy

Tom

Nice idea and nice job. I've not found that my guards collect a lot of trash but they do collect some. With it open like that it makes cleaning very easy. I like easy!!!

I see some of the new John Deere units have a hinged spring-loaded belt guard that's a pretty neat idea. Just left it up blow it off and let the spring set it back down. Hopefully Hustler can "barrow" the idea in the future.
I think I'll start with a half inch to three quarter inch hole that I can get my air compressor nozzle into.... if that doesn't work maybe I can force myself to do the same cut job on my new FasTrak.

I did the 1/2" hole mod (3 for each) guard last year. It was worked OK. Then I saw your mod and decided to try it. I didn't cut as wide a opening, I only did 4" and I have to say it works better and quicker. Using my leaf blower to blow off debris it shoots straight through to the other side and only takes a few seconds instead of minutes.

Glad you guys like it!!
This mod works great especially during fall clean ups when the leaves are getting mulched,,thats when the covers get real plugged up :)

Yeah,,I scratched my head for a while before I cut them,,I was like man this is a brand new machine,i cant be butchering it up..lol..then I just did it and glad I did!

You guys just aren't running those rascals fast enough. lol. Run'em wide open and it does a nicer job and doesn't load up with cuttings.

I have a SD60 and I don't see any problems with the mower design at all. I just run it like I stole it, blow it off, let it cool and the hit it with the garden hose, let it dry, then back it into the Garage Mahal.

One of the reasons I bought the 60 was to get the seat. Wider tires, engine guard and a couple of other things. The seat does make some difference. One of these days, I'm going to try the flex forks and suspension seat thingy.

Those flex forks area little out of my budget,,I took one spring out from under my seat, now there is two springs instead of three,,helped quit a bit bro,,Im 180 pounds soaking wet.

Yeah the seat is pretty nice on the 60,,I think the 48 and 54 come with that seat now that kohler took over...My seat is not bad,,pretty comfy to sit in for at least an hour straight...I could always get another seat for it...engine guard i might just fabricate one of those myself...$90 for a piece of bent metal with a sticker on it????
