Hi folks,

First post so want to say hello from the Isle of Harris.

Currently had a Great Dane Scamper walk behind but just got a 2022 Rider.

It’s got the engine I believe to be the Loncin LC2P73F branded as HV. It was advertised as running rough so thought nice winter project.

Anyway when got it home I took the filter out to take a look and it’s all melted. So further investigation I found neither of the two cylinder exhaust connections below the cylinders were secured in place simply hanging there. No bolts no gaskets so all very odd. Had thought it was sounding like a blown exhaust..

Anyway, contacted HV Uk and sent images but of course they want mower in for inspection at authorised dealer. Mines over 200 miles and a ferry crossing away.

Anyone seen anything like this before? Mowers only done 280 hrs and the fact the bolts on both sides and gaskets are missing has me thinking has it been like this since new.

No records of any services being done it’s all HV original parts. I’ve ordered a service kit and given it a good once over. It’s like new other than this.

So I bolted up the exhaust and used like gasket sealer temporarily until the proper gaskets come. Run it up for an hour to see if any excessive heat around the rear at the air filter. Nothing had it on around 30 mins and it’s running and sounding sweet at all revs.

So I’m just wondering why they would have been missing? Odd all four are out and it’s not like you would ever need them off at this low hours. So I’m thinking they were never fitted possibly.

Sorry for long first message.

I did cut with it and it’s amazing, some bit of kit. Looking forward to many happy mowing days. I do all my old neighbours grass so this will make it easy..

Cheers
Mark

Anyone that would run a mower with no muffler hooked up for 280 hours is either deaf or dumb. It is very loud.

In all honesty it’s not that bad. I was surprised. You could kinda tell it was just blowing but I thought maybe a hole or something. I was very surprised when it wasn’t connected either side. However there really isn’t a lot of difference in noise with it now connected up. Also it’s really hard to tell if I have it sealed at the flanges due to the fan pushing air down the engine.

I tried to cover the exhaust outlet at rear with cloth but it’s not backing up like I thought it would. I’m sure without the gaskets it’s still not properly sealed. However I’m sure the heat concentration won’t be the same now hopefully with it connected up. The exhaust is now getting hot as you’d expect.

All very odd.

Hello, no problem, you have a problem and the details are important so it was impossible for your message not to be long compared to your deduction of the problem is a huge possibility, since if they were connected none of that would happen, right?

Fingers crossed it’s the cause of the melting. Certainly didn’t appear to get hot after running it for a while after re-connecting the exhaust.

Dicksonm-
It seems a bit odd that you suddenly start responding to all these recent posts. Although help is appreciated, your advice seems a bit general and wordy, rather than specific and practical.
