  • / Question regarding piston rings on B&S Intek 24hp
In the process of refreshing a Briggs Intek 24hp. It started with the missing pushrod trick. I decided to do a full rebuild because of how far I had to go to retrieve the pushrod. The engine was burning a significant amount of oil, and fouling the spark plug on one side so a rebuild was needed anyway. In my haste to get parts on the way, I ordered piston rings that are correct for my model number. However, the ones that I ordered have a different type of oil ring. After further investigation, It appears that I ordered rings for a different date range than mine. Can anyone with experience/knowledge let me know if I can use these rings, or MUST I get the ones for my date code ?

How about supplying us with the model type and code from the engine so we can see what you are trying to work on.

Yessir, Model 445677 type 0413 E1 code 050404 YG is what I am working on.

Not long after my post, I phoned a friend and posed the situation to him. He stated that I will be able to use the piston rings from a different date code. He stated that the difference style oil ring will be fine and that it's just a style change at the manufacturer for who knows why. Then suggested that I confirm the ring gap is within tolerance and go for it.

Looks like 792026 for your engine date code.

Additional question: I have found torque specs for the cylinder heads as 300in lbs. Where can I find torque specs for the connecting rods, rocker arm pivot, and bottom cover ???
