I have a MTD Yard Machines garden tractor with a B&S 18.5 engine with a 7speed with HIGH and LOW range. I have always had hydrostatic units before. This one seems ok in low range, I can shift it with no problem, but in high range with blades engaged and higher rpm, when I go to shift the lever flies into 7th gear. It really has a lot of tension on it.
Is this normal for this setup or is there something wrong.

Re: Question about HIGH and LOW range on Yard Machines w/B&S 18.5 engine and 7 speed
The vari-drive system is dependent on spring pressure to determine which "gear" that you are in, so look at the selector area and
see if there is a spot that will let it hop into a higher selection.
