I've got a Exmark Quest42 that came to a clattering halt while mowing down a relatively steep hill. The engine died and after I came to a stop and the bottom of the hill I restarted it, but the mower would not move forward or backwards (although I could hear the hydraulic pumps straining to move mower when the levers were moved forward or backward). I shut the engine off, by turning the key off, but the a black component under the seat continues to "clatter". The only way I could stop it from humming and rattling was to disconnect the battery.

Any ideas what may have failed?

Thanks,

Chasmo

I would check the battery and make sure it is fully charged. That module has a motor in it that turns the two rods to engage and disengage the brake. It will not start unless the brake is engaged.
