Hi,
I've just done a refurb of the cutting deck on my Craftsman 259060. Put in new mandrel assemblies, blades, pulleys, idler pulleys, belt and clutch cable (kit used). (see my post under "Members : New member in France").

It now cuts really well but some problems (or not) exist. 1. The clutch doesn't engage until about 80% of the way up the slot. 2. The clutch doesn't disengage until the engine is switched off (it then does so loudly). and 3. the engine does not accelerate when the clutch is engaged. All these things started to happen before I did the refurb. Anyone any advice ?

Many thanks

Dave

Mark,

Many thanks for your response. I'm not able to do that at present. I'm not in France, where my mower is, and I won't be until early April. I'll aim to pick this up again when I get back.

Current status is that I put a further new belt on and the clutch now works OK. The previous belt was wrong size despite having the correct part number. I have redone the valve timing. It now starts OK. As the weather was so bad I was unable to get out and fully test it.

Regards

David

Hi,

I thought I would just up date this thread to close it off. I re looked at the mower in April. Starting problems continued. Though I had tested the spark plug (taken it out and saw it spark) a further look at it prompted me to replace it. It looked "burnt" and in fact not sparking consistently. The other problem - not starting when hot was resolved by replacing the solenoid. I did this after replacing the starter motor. On reflection I should have replaced the solenoid first as I now believe the starter motor was OK.
So all reasonably OK now though I think I have a build up of dirt round the carb which is interfering with the choke - will clean this next. Hopefully all OK now. The deck refurb has worked well and given this is now a 14 year old machine I'm quite happy with it. Next job refurb the steering.

Regards
Dave
